Bilbao, 22 May 2019.- The Nortegas Board of Directors has appointed Javier Contreras as the company’s new Managing Director.

With a law degree from the Complutense University of Madrid and an International MBA from ESADE (Barcelona), the new Nortegas Managing Director has spent the last ten years working in the energy sector, and in particularly in natural gas distribution, where, after the divestiture carried out by Gas Natural Fenosa in 2010, he was the Financial Director of Madrileña Red de Gas.In September 2017, and coinciding with the change in the shareholding structure of the company, Javier joined the Nortegas Board of Directors as an independent board member, in which capacity he has been supporting the company in different initiatives in the business development and regulatory spheres.

Until his appointment as Managing Director, Javier Contreras was the Executive Vice-President and Corporate General Manager at X-Elio, a multinational company developing and operating renewable energy projects.

Javier Contreras had previously held executive posts in the financial and corporative areas of companies such as Aventis Behring, Grifols and eDreams.

With this appointment, and after completion of the Nortegas transition to fully independent management in 2018, the foundations have been laid to launch Nortegas’s ambitious growth and development plan driven and supported by the new shareholders, and where the company is committed, through R&D&I, to decarbonisation, the circular economy and combatting climate change.
